This is ensuring educational alignment to industry need and contributing to the goal of growing the annual value of the State’s agriculture sector to $10 billion by 2050.
The steering committee also provided guidance to TasTAFE on the needs, expectations, and industry forecasts throughout the development of a new $5 million Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence at TasTAFE’s Freer Farm in Burnie. The Centre of Excellence, completed in 2023, offers contemporary learning approaches and use of technology to deliver modern, authentic training that is aligned to industry expectations.
The Centre of Excellence and TasTAFE’s well-established links with key industry figures supports the goal of growth and value of the sector by supporting educational pathways to careers in agriculture, supporting ongoing professional development for primary producers to maintain competitiveness, and forges links with industry that builds the capacity of teachers to deliver industry informed agricultural education.
To ensure TasTAFE continues to be responsive to the workforce development needs of the agriculture industry in Tasmania, TasTAFE has now established a new Industry Advisory Group (IAG). This group will advise on industry needs, trends, and priorities, along with future program development.
The recently formed Agricultural IAG has produced a rolling action plan to guide the Group’s agenda. The Plan aligns with the broader priorities of Tasmania's agricultural sector and includes priorities identified in the Tasmanian Government's AgriVision 2050 and Tasmanian Skills Plan.
TasTAFE’s Agricultural IAG partners include TasFarmers, Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, Primary Employers Tasmania, Fruit Growers Tasmania, Department for Education Children and Young People (DECYP), Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group along with several highly experienced industry representatives.
